A Typical Day at ODLC
Our daily schedule offers a wide variety of activities including learning exploration centers, fine and gross motor skill development, interactive music activities, library time, outside play, and a whole lot more!
Mornings
Children are welcomed to school every morning and start with self-selected activities. We then have circle time where we review the weather, calendar, job chart, attendance, and practice sign language. This is also where we review letters, numbers, shapes, and colors. Circle time is a very interactive time where the children are encouraged to participate!
Next, we have Learning Centers Exploration. During Learning Centers Exploration, students learn construction, math, writing, discovery, and dramatic play. The younger preschoolers also participate in Small Group Exploration where they enjoy arts and crafts time as well as social skills activities. School Skills Seatwork includes early literacy, conversation, comprehension, and listening and speaking. Children also learn math, health and safety, media and technology, creative arts, science and social studies, and social and emotional development.
Each morning, if the weather permits, we have outside play for 30 minutes.
Afternoons
After lunch is free-read time where students choose books from our library. Afterward, younger children nap while rising kindergartners have Social Skills Group.
Social Skills Group includes afternoon greetings and a warm-up activity followed by social playtime where the students self-select toys. We follow this with 30 minutes of intensive social skill-building instruction with a guided curriculum. Then we have another social playtime where the students self-select toys followed by closing circle and cool down activities.
Each afternoon, if the weather permits, we have outside play.
